Roof, gutter and solar panel cleaning
Under the oaks in Chico and the pines on the Ridge, a roof fills up. Needles pack the valleys and hold water under the shingles, leaves stop the gutters, and moss grows on the north slope. Boe Roofing clears all of it, and washes the solar panels while the ladder is up.
Roof and gutter cleaning
Needles and leaves come off by hand and blower, never by pressure washer, which strips the granules off a shingle roof. Valleys, the uphill side of chimneys and skylights, and the gutters are cleared, and the downspouts are flushed. Moss is treated and brushed off, not scraped.
The best time is late fall, after the oaks drop and before the heavy rain, and again in spring. In the fire hazard zones, a clean roof and clean gutters are also part of the defensible space the insurer and the inspector look for, and we will tell you if the gutters need guards.
Solar panel cleaning
Dust from the orchards, pollen in spring, ash in fire season: a dirty array in the valley gives up a real share of its output by late summer. We wash panels by hand with soft brushes and deionized water, no soap and no pressure, and check the mounts and the flashing at the feet while we are there, because a solar installer's roof penetrations are a common leak.
Common questions
Twice a year on the Ridge, in late fall and spring. Once a year in the valley under oaks, after the leaves drop.
No. Pressure washing takes the granules off composition shingles and drives water under tile. Hand clearing, blowers and a moss treatment do the job without shortening the roof's life.
That is the idea. While we are up there we look at the flashing at every mount and at the roof around the array, and we tell you if anything needs attention.
