Roofing in Chico, CA

Chico is home. Boe Roofing works out of the north side of town, and most of the roofs we put on are within the city: the 1950s and 1960s ranch houses of the Avenues and the south campus neighborhoods, the 1970s and 1980s tracts off East Avenue and in Chico Hills, and the newer subdivisions out toward the airport and in the north.

Chico roofs die of sun, not rain. A hundred days a year over ninety degrees cooks the asphalt out of shingles, so composition roofs here last toward the short end of their rating and attic ventilation matters more than anywhere else we work. Chico is in Climate Zone 11, so the cool roof rule reaches most full replacements, and the City of Chico reroof permit asks for dry rot to be replaced and a rated roof to go on.

Chico roofing questions

Yes. The City of Chico issues reroof permits over the counter and online, requires dry rot to be replaced, and requires the new roof to be at least Class A, B or a 25-year product. We pull it and meet the inspector.

If more than half the roof is replaced, yes, unless the attic already has R-38 insulation or one of the other exceptions. Rated shingles come in ordinary colours, so it rarely changes what the roof looks like.

Twenty years for three-tab and twenty-five to thirty for architectural shingles, less on a bare south slope. Ventilation and a rated shingle both stretch it.
