Gutters, fascia and soffit

Gutters, fascia and soffit

The edge of the roof is where water is supposed to leave the house, and where it does the most damage when it does not. Boe Roofing hangs seamless gutters and downspouts, replaces the fascia and soffit that rot behind failed gutters, and fits the guards the fire code asks for on the Ridge.

The eave: drip edge, fascia board, gutter and downspout. It takes every drop the roof sheds.

Gutters and downspouts

Seamless aluminum gutters are formed on site to the length of each run, hung on hidden brackets into the rafter tails, and pitched to the downspouts. A gutter that holds water has either lost its pitch or lost its brackets, and both are fixable without new gutters. Downspouts get extended away from the foundation, which on a Chico lot with a crawlspace is the difference between a dry crawlspace and a wet one.

Fascia and soffit

When gutters overflow for a few winters the fascia behind them rots, and then the soffit and the rafter tails. We find it on nearly every reroof of a house over thirty years old, and the time to replace it is while the roof edge is open. New fascia goes on primed and painted, the drip edge laps over it, and the gutter hangs from solid wood again.

Gutter guards in the fire zone

Pine needles in a gutter are kindling against the fascia, and the wildland code calls for guards on gutters in the hazard zones. We fit metal mesh guards that keep needles out and let water in, and we will tell you honestly which ones work under pines and which just move the problem to the roof edge.

Common questions

Yes, as part of the roof and gutter cleaning service, on its own or before the rains.

Yes. The gutter comes down, the drip edge is lifted, the board is replaced and painted, and the gutter goes back. During a reroof it is cheaper because the edge is already open.

Fine mesh guards do. The open-top helmet style sheds needles over the edge but lets small debris in and overshoots in a hard rain. We will show you both.
